Pronounced "muh-KEE-lee" (born September 6, 1969 in Fairfield, New South Wales) is a short and long course triathlete from Australia. Michellie Jones currently lives in Carlsbad, California.
Throughout the 1990s Michellie Jones was the world’s outstanding female triathlete.In that decade she secured a podium finish at the sport’s World Championships five out of the seven times she competed. On the other two occasions she was fourth.
With four of the top five ranked female triathletes in the world, qualification for the Australian team was always going to be tough, but Jones secured her place at the first attempt. She did so with victory, over the Olympic course, in the Sydney World Cup event in April.
The absence of a professional tour in Australia made the move to the US a necessity and success wasn’t long coming. MJ remains in the United States, travelling to Australia to compete in hand-picked events. Although she was born in Fairfield, not far from Sydney’s Homebush Bay Olympic precinct, Jones now lives in California.

Interestingly both Jones and Welch hail from "The Sutherland Shire" in Sydney's South as does 2006 mens 2nd place finisher Chris McCormack.
